Domo Arigato, Mrs. Roboto? Jessica Alba took to Instagram on Sept. 2 to share a photo of a crazy facial she got and the snap looked pretty wacky.
This was not your run-of-the-mill sheet mask either. Alba, 34, and her
entire face were obscured by a white, Svedka robot-esque mask, lit up
with pink LED lights.
What's with that? Us Weekly spoke to Shani Darden,
Alba's facialist and the mastermind behind what Alba called her
"Emergency skin treatment" on Instagram, to find out the answer.
Turns out, it isn't as mind-boggling as it seems. First Darden
treated Alba to her signature facial, followed by an LED light therapy
treatment. "[The LED part] is one of the last steps in [my] facial
process," the skin expert tells Us Weekly.
[While Alba certainly is pretty in pink, the color of the light is an
important factor in the treatment. "The mask uses a combination of red
and blue light to combat aging and acne. Red light boosts collagen,
which plumps skin and helps dissipate wrinkles, and the blue light kills
bacteria that creates acne," she tells Us. "This mask
is unique because you can use both the blue and red light either on
their own, or simultaneously (pink light). You could do the treatment
everyday, but for best results, once a week is ideal."
One of the benefits of the treatment is its ability to act almost
immediately. "LED facials are great to get right before events because
they do a fantastic job at taming breakouts and giving the face a
radiant glow," Darden says, noting that this particular mask can only be
administered by an esthetician.
